Potential for cost savings is an important driver for new asphalt pavement preservation techniques. This study evaluated the cost effectiveness of RePlay Agricultural Oil and Preservation Agent® (“RePlay”), a biobased asphalt pavement preservation agent. Results of statistical analysis performed using data from Hutchinson, MN show RePlay slows the rate of degradation of asphalt. Findings from this statistical analysis were applied to a life-cycle cost analysis. Using the State of Minnesota as a case study, the life-cycle cost analysis was conducted with sensitivity analysis. The results show RePlay to be a financially viable bituminous surface treatment that public agencies can use to reduce maintenance costs of low-volume roads.
