Investigating Drying Technologies for Post-Digester Solids

The purpose of this initiative is to investigate drying technologies that might make the drying process more economical, and make the use of post-digester manure solids for a fuel or fertilizer viable. File Attached: Drying_tech_for_manure_solids_4-13-2011.pdf

Northwest Minnesota Methane Digester Feedstock Inventory

The agriculture industry is abundant and the potential for biogas production is significant in northwest Minnesota. Biogas, or methane, is produced through a processof anaerobic digestion of biodegradable materials known as feedstocks. Common feedstocks for anaerobic digestion include agricultural waste, industrial wastes and wastewater, municipal biowaste, and energy crops. If farmers, ranchers, and businesses combined their resources a successful digester could be better justified. This report looks at the inventory… Continue Reading Northwest Minnesota Methane Digester Feedstock Inventory

Great Lakes Region Food Industry Biogas Casebook

Food and beverage producers have been using anaerobic treatment of their production wastewaters for decades. These systems have become increasingly popular in recent years for both economic and environmental reasons. As energy costs have risen, the reduced energy intensity of anaerobic digester treatments over aerobic treatment options has presented a clear cost advantage for facilities producing high strength wastes. Anaerobic treatments also result in much smaller amounts of biosolids than… Continue Reading Great Lakes Region Food Industry Biogas Casebook

        Crop Residue Valuation Template

The Crop Residue Valuation Template tool allows individuals to calculate the fertilizer replacement value of crop residue removal along with projected residue yields for corn stover and wheat straw. AURI does not recommend utilizing soybean straw for biomass needs due to sustainability questions associated with soybean straw removal. Continue Reading Crop Residue Valuation Template

Use of Glycerol as a Corn Replacement in Calf Starter Diets

Glycerol is a sugar alcohol by-product of bio-diesel production. About 1 gallon of glycerin is produced for every 10 gallons of bio-diesel. This report looks at incorporating glycerol into diets for pre- and post weaned dairy heifer calves. File Attached: Glycerol_in_Calf_Diets_AIC044.pdf
