AURI Webinar Will Highlight The Future of Protein Sustainability

Free event March 12 is the first in AURI Connects: Webinar Wednesday “Future of” Series

The Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) will host a free webinar from noon to 1 p.m. CT on March 12 to kick off its first event in the AURI Connects Webinar Wednesday “Future of” Series, sponsored by Bremer Bank and Minnesota Farmers Union.

The webinar, “The Future of Protein Sustainability—Food & Feed,” will highlight industry trends and opportunities and current efforts to advance protein sustainability. The webinar is free, but participants must register in advance.

As global demand for protein continues to grow due to increasing population and consumer interest, the food and agricultural industry is evolving to meet this demand sustainably and responsibly through a combination of innovation, research, and partnerships. Minnesota is a leader in protein production and new efforts are underway to support industry transformation and scale-up possibilities across both plant and traditional protein sectors.

“The growth in protein demand is driving interest in new innovation advancements for both the traditional and plant protein sectors,” says Shannon Schlecht, executive director at AURI. “While sustainability has always been important to people working in food and ag, this protein-focused session will help create greater awareness of initiatives underway to further connect and engage around these emerging opportunities.”

Featured speakers during the webinar will include:

  • Abbi Prins, Dairy & Animal Protein Industry Analyst, CoBank
  • Lara Moody, P.E., Executive Director, Institute for Feed Education & Research (IFEEDER)
  • Zach Hubert, Corporate Development, Puris
  • JoAnne Berkenkamp, Managing Partner, MBOLD
  • Shannon Schlecht, Executive Director, AURI

These experts will be talking about:

  • The protein industry landscape and why it is critical to improve sustainability outcomes.
  • How to understand/define protein sustainability in food and feed ingredients and meet sustainability goals.
  • MBOLD’s endeavors to make Minnesota a leading hub of innovation to make proteins more sustainable.
  • AURI’s efforts to support the utilization of protein-rich crops for feed, such as winter camelina, hemp, and alfalfa.
