AURI Hosts Free Webinar September 11 on Climate Change Opportunities Utilizing CO2 for Value-Added Agriculture

The Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) is hosting the next installment of a multipart webinar series on climate change opportunities for value-added ag businesses. The free event is from Noon to 1 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, and is sponsored by Bremer Bank and Avisen Legal. Registration is now open.
Minnesota’s value-added agricultural industry is well-equipped to adapt to a changing climate, with an increased focus on climate resiliency and reducing carbon intensity. Among the emerging opportunities is the productive use of carbon dioxide (CO2) obtained from biological processes associated with agriculture, such as ethanol fermentation or anaerobic digestion.

The webinar will discuss the:

• Supply and demand of agricultural-derived CO2 from ethanol and anaerobic digestion
• Current and projected uses of captured CO2
• Associated environmental benefits of capturing and using CO2
• Latest research on CO2 uses
• Technical and economic challenges and how they are being addressed

Speakers:
• Chad Friese, CEO, Chippewa Valley Ethanol Cooperative
• Sally Hart, Director of Outreach & Community, CapCO2 Solutions, Inc
• Luca Zullo, Ph.D., Sr. Director of Science & Technology, AURI

This is the second webinar in a four-part online seminar series on climate change opportunities for value-added ag businesses. To see past and future webinars in the series visit AURI’s YouTube channel.

AURI Connects: Webinar Wednesday is a recurring webinar series hosted by AURI. Each session explores different aspects of the food and ag sectors in Minnesota—from resources for food entrepreneurs to innovations in coproducts and biobased energy.

About AURI
The Agricultural Utilization Research Institute is a nonprofit whose mission is to accelerate the expansion of the agricultural economy by empowering expanded uses and markets of agriculturally derived products. It accomplishes this by using science and technology to help develop new uses for agricultural products. It collaborates globally, acts regionally, and is known as an economic catalyst in Minnesota communities by helping businesses take advantage of innovative opportunities in two focus areas: bioindustrial products (biobased products, renewable energy, and coproducts) and food. AURI provides a broad range of services, including applied research and development, scientific assistance, and a targeted network of resources to develop value-added uses for crops and coproducts.
