Minnesota meat processors stack up well against their counterparts from other states, at least when it comes to some friendly competition at the American Association of Meat Processors convention in Reno, Nevada. AAMP’s annual convention is geared toward operators of small firms involved in the meat, poultry and food business
AURI meats scientist Carissa Nath took part in the recent event which also features the American Cured Meats Championship. This is the premier event for processors to feature their products and compete. The competition featured more than 500 products entered in 26 different categories. Minnesota had five grand champions and several other reserve champions.
The annual convention also included seminars on retail design, using social media to leverage business, business insurance, capitol equipment, even a pig stuffing demonstration. The event also featured more than 80 companies showcasing processing equipment and supplies.
