AURI Executive Director Teresa Spaeth and Planning and Project Director Kate Paris heard firsthand from the Commander in Chief about his vision for rural economic development. The pair took part in President Barack Obama’s town hall meeting held at Cannon Falls, which kicked off the President’s tour of Midwestern states.
Among the topics President Obama addressed was renewable energy and the contributions made by farmers and agriculture.
“If you help the farm economy in rural communities, you help the economy of the entire state,” President Obama told the crowd. “And if you help entire states, then that’s good for the country as a whole.”
“It is heartening to hear the President recognize farming and innovative agriculture for their contributions to creating wealth in rural America,” Spaeth said. “That certainly supports the message AURI has been carrying for years."
Spaeth and Paris attended the event as guests of Congressman Tim Walz.
